Overview
Pocket Pod is designed to educate beginner investors through podcast content and one-on-one coaching, helping them build stronger financial literacy.
Role
Finance UX Alchemist, Product Designer, Content Creator
Challenge
Based on our research into competitor investment media, we found that the visual tone and messaging are often either panic-driven or extremely dull. Combined with secondary research showing that nearly 50% of people are afraid of losing money and 36% don’t know where to start, it’s clear that these design choices contribute to a psychological barrier. This invisible hurdle is a major reason why many people feel excluded from financial and investment education.
Solution
After the user had tested the Pocket Pod mobile prototype, I realised that podcast recommendations needed to be tailored to each user’s financial literacy level. To address this, I introduced an onboarding quiz inspired by Duolingo’s gamified approach to assess users’ investment knowledge and personalise their content experience from the start.
Onboarding Quiz
Inspired by the socio-sexual hierarchy, we’ve reimagined it as a Financial Literacy Hierarchy. To reach Alpha Level, users must complete and pass two levels of onboarding quiz. There are three levels with two stages of quiz, Alpha, Beta and Gamma, and whoever doesn’t surpass the Beta level will automatically located in Gamma Level. Once the quiz is complete the app will suggest your investment knowledge level of podcast and mentors.
